Taking a diet pill and losing weight is a whole lot easier than the alternative, regular exercise and a healthy diet.
It is for this reason that diet pills are so appealing to so many. However, there are numerous problems with this approach to weight loss. One problem is the potential dangers of diet pills – the many side effects that can result from taking them. Another problem is the much debated effectiveness. So many of them promise extraordinary weight loss, but fail to live up to their claims.

Other diet pills that contain caffeine carry the risk of fatiguing your adrenals, which in turn brings about many problems, such as lightheadedness, feeling faint, nausea, anxiety, tiredness, or junk food cravings (which is extremely counterproductive when trying to lose weight).
Prescription appetite suppressants can increase blood pressure, which in turn raises the risk of heart attack or cardiac arrest.
By far, the worst risk of taking a diet pill is death. And there have been deaths caused by over the counter diet pills, prescription diet pills, and diet pill supplements.
2. Dependency – Some diet pills may be habit forming. So if you don’t want to risk getting addicted to taking diet pills for the rest of your life, don’t take a diet pill that has the potential to become addictive.
3. The High Cost – Diet and exercise works. Diet pills may not. Why spend money on something that could damage your health and be completely noneffective. We all want a magic pill, but no diet pill will ever be as effective as a healthy diet and exercise. Period.
4.  Short Term Results  – Once the diet pill is stopped being taken, the weight will come back. Quick fixes for health never work. It’s all about removing the lifestyle habits that are causing the problem and replacing them with healthy habits. A diet pill bypasses all of that, so the unhealthy lifestyles continue. Once the pill is stopped, or stops working, the weight will come back if nothing changes.
5. Cheating Yourself From Real Health – In the end, a diet pill is a way to cheat yourself from learning the principles of true health. True, sustainable health comes from the regular practice of healthy principles. Don’t shortchange yourself, you deserve the best.
As you can see, diet pills aren’t without their dangers. Although they may work for some people, are they truly fixing the problem, or are they just providing a quick fix? Do diet pills fix what caused the weight gain, or do they just cover them up, much like a band-aid does to a cut?
With all the above said, I believe diet pills are not the answer. If losing weight was really as easy as taking a diet pill, you can bet 60% of American adults over 20 wouldn’t be considered overweight or obese. There is a bigger underlying problem to weight gain, and that is poor diet, followed by lack of exercise.
I myself have experimented with all sorts of diets and diet pills. I never had success with diet pills and I’ve come to the conclusion that a healthy diet and regular exercise is truly the best way to lose weight. For me and many others, diet pills were purely a distraction and a waste of money.

That fact is the inherent problem with diet pills.  People think they can eat whatever they want and then pop a magic pill and lose weight.  It doesn’t work that way.  Me and countless others have tried this approach to weight loss, to find that it absolutely doesn’t work.  It’s funny because by looking for quick fixes, you actually waste more time by going in circles following ineffective weight loss methods.
The most effective and healthy way to lose weight is to change to a healthy, sustainable diet, and to do some form of exercise regularly.  Weight loss is all about removing the bad choices that brought the weight gain, and replacing them with good choices that bring health and weight loss.
I believe, both from personal experience and from days of research – that eating raw, uncooked plant foods is the most effective way to not only lose weight, but to promote peak health.
I’ve lost 60 lbs since I first started my weight loss journey.  Throughout the journey I’ve been climbing a ladder towards a better diet.  I first lost weight just changing to eating a vegetarian diet, and when the weight loss slowed from that change, I started eating vegan.  The weight loss resumed again, and I began to feel better and better.
